RECONSTRUCTION OF THE ODESA THEATRE SQUARE

The project to reconstruct the theatre square of the Odessa Opera and Ballet Theatre on Richelievskaya Street is an important part of the renovation and revitalisation of the historic centre. The square's current appearance was created after World War II, when the buildings at 1 and 2 Richelievska Street, which had been severely damaged during the bombing of Odessa, were demolished.
More than 70 years have passed since that reconstruction. The current design has lost its relevance in many ways, but its main problem lies elsewhere — it is not interesting either from an architectural point of view or as a tourist attraction.
The new look of Theatre Square will revitalise and improve the appearance of the city's calling card — the Opera House. The design of the square will complement it and echo its architectural style, colours, decorative elements and even the sculptures that we do not always see on the roof of the theatre building. The historic city centre will take on its final appearance and become the first step towards the architectural rebirth of Odessa as the pearl of the Black Sea.
