Visualisations of the Odessa Zoo reconstruction project.

The site covers an area of 6 hectares. Work began in 2018.

In 2021, the first phase of construction was completed - the entrance area (entrance to the zoo through Preobrazhensky Park). Work has been suspended until 2025 due to the start of Russia's full-scale invasion against Ukraine.

According to the project, the entire territory of the zoo will become a continuous green area with artificial irrigation, criss-crossed by a network of pedestrian paths. Between them will be a lawn for relaxation, where visitors can have a snack and sunbathe, and enclosures with animals. The enclosures will be built on hills, stylised as specific zones divided according to geographical principles, and the animals will be grouped by country and continent. The zoo's inhabitants will be separated from their two-legged visitors by moats and glass partitions equipped with electric fences.

Interaction with the animals will take place on different levels. In a huge aviary for bright southern birds, covering an area of over 200 square metres, where tropical plants will grow, it is planned to create two galleries. The upper level will be located at a height of five metres. The aviary will occupy one of the wings of the future new entrance from Vysokyi Lane. The entrance will be decorated in Moorish style. The second wing will house an administrative centre, a café and restrooms of normal capacity and comfort.
